The conscience of Art
What is Art and what is its main goal? These and some of the aspects of art have really been troubling to me.So i would pout my random musings in a random manner.
I generally don't go by the medicore definition of not being able to express anything.Something like when asked what is love? people won't have an answer ..and to cover up their incompetence they generally preach the doubter to feeeel it and realise.I go by the understanding that everything which can be understood can be expressed. The piece that follows is not entirely my original thought but a recollection of what i learnt.
So what is Art?
Art is a form of communication ,just like language is a form of social connection ,art is a form of communication in pictures(artists),poems(poets),dance(dancers) all trying to express themselves in a different way.
So when is a piece of art great?
Since it is a form of communication the better it is able to communicate with people the greater it increases it chance of being great.
So what does an artist want in his creation popularity that comes with art or just art?
This is the difficult part something very popular and famous can't be great bcoz people generally though they love beauty they adore the plain..if we go by popularity ratings what we esentially get is a fool and not an artist.
But this puts us in a diffcult situation where,is it not possible to give a damn about people and just let his imagination flow? Are there no such people who are like that?
Yes,there are people who love art only for the sake of art and for them that which comes with art is something very non-essential or just a secondary attribute of his work. But the problem is man being a selfish individual though he starts with the love for art very soon gets caught in the vortex of fame and popularity..which is when his real love for his art is tested.
I have recently seen this movie "Iqbaal" where the hero is dumb and deaf and he aspires to become a budding cricketer. The movie ends with he becoming a cricketer. But doesn't life really start for him when he got what he wanted to get? This is where the real test is..is it really the love for cricket which put him there or the love for fame is his main goal and cricket was just the means to achieve it?
What ever fame or love that comes with this.. why is Art so popular? Why can't people just leave it all aside and work for science which what which seems to take the mankind forward? isn't it..imagine a world of scientists and mathematicians ..where intelligence will be highly developed and we will have answers to most of the problems..every body knows the position of electron in any given atom and they know when the big bang began..isn't that a highly developed world?? why is this seeminlgy irrational art so popular and generally it takes people to instant fame..be it writing, dance, singing or painting..while science lurks with problems.
The answer as of i see it is that science serves art and not the viceversa.
Art is not something like a very noble attempt by a human to grasp the beauty in the nature or the simle of a small kid or the affection in a young woman for her love..it is an attempt to create. It gives the man the power of the Creator .Oh!! yes man becomes GOD.Art is an assertion by man ..the will to power or dominate. Therefore,Art is very essential as it gives the satisfaction of our supremacy which science can never provide..science tries to understand nature and the various objects in it and their relations and is always an attempt to realise the TRUTH..where as in art it is not the truth that matters but the ingenuity of the human mind to create..to create soemthing new..to assert mankind that he can be GOD and he is.
This should explain why dumb people like film stars are treated like GOD's by the mobs where as this very mob using all the things which made its life comfortable by science generally neglects it.An einstein can never be loved like a Tom Cruise or a Shahrukh Khan..bcoz essentially he is very intelligent ,which itself is repulsive to mobs and the imp thing was Einstein is not an artist.
